About Us

Every great story begins with passion - ours began with fashion and espresso!

Before Martina London came to life, Barbara spent over 25 years in the world of luxury fashion, working with some of the most iconic names in the industry: Gucci, Armani, Alexander McQueen, and more. Her eye for beauty and her natural sense of Italian style connected her deeply with London’s creative scene, especially here in Notting Hill, where she became known for her warmth, vision, style, community sense and love for craftsmanship.

Meanwhile, Andre was building his own legacy. Back in the 1980s, he was one of the first to bring real Italian espresso to Westbourne Grove - long before coffee culture became a London staple. It was in those early days that Barbara and Andre met, sharing not only a love of good coffee but a dream of creating something together that felt like home!

When their daughter Martina was born, their story took a new turn. Barbara became deeply involved in the local community - from mother groups to creative collaborations - and began showcasing her own fashion designs through pop-ups and small collections. Out of that period came new inspiration. Barbara launched a children’s clothing line, and then a mother-and-child collection, celebrating individuality, sustainability and love. Every piece was made uniquely in small batches - no mass production, no wholesale - just personal, heartfelt, stylish but comfortable design. Her work reflected her heritage and her belief in style with soul, while Andre continued to build connections through hospitality and heart.

Martina - a place to eat, shop, laugh, connect and feel at home!

Six years ago, that shared vision came to life with the opening of Martina London. It began as a fashion boutique, but Barbara soon dreamt of something more - a place where people could shop, sip, chat, and truly belong.

When Covid-19 arrived, Barbara and Andre faced the challenge with resilience and creativity. While fashion and hospitality paused, they reinvented themselves - Barbara cooking homemade lasagna in her kitchen (which soon became famous as Notting Hill’s best), and Andre focusing on keeping the doors open and spirits high whilst always planning and building Martina. They supported local Italian food brands, stayed connected with their customers, and turned a difficult time into something meaningful.

As Barbara likes to say, “My husband always supported me through all my crazy ideas - otherwise this wouldn’t have been possible!”

During those cozy lockdown days, Max the Labrador, the family’s beloved dog, became part of the Martina family too - greeting customers, joining regulars for walks, and adding warmth to every visit. Though Max passed away in July, his spirit still lingers - in the laughter, the kindness, and the unmistakable comfort that fills the shop.

Today, Martina London is more than just a boutique or café. It’s a living story - a gathering place where everyone belongs. The regulars are part of the charm - local characters with stories to tell, always up for a chat and a laugh. Whether you come in for your morning coffee, a glass of wine, or just to browse the racks, you’ll quickly find yourself part of the conversation.

It’s the kind of place where you can come alone and leave with new friends, or settle in with your laptop and a cappuccino, surrounded by familiar faces and friendly hellos. There’s always someone sharing a story, a plate of pasta, or a good recommendation.

From homemade lasagna to live music nights, Italian wine tastings, and unique fashion finds, the shop keeps evolving - but one thing never changes: the feeling of coziness, community, and that warm Italian welcome that makes Martina London so special!
